2/6/12

Following is a summary from the Winter Programs meeting, which was held last Monday evening.

We need two (2) chaperones for each group that is involved at competitions:  six (6) total for the dates of February 11th, March 17th, and March 24th; four (4) total for March 31st and April 1st; two (2) for the guard Feb. 24th and 25th; and two (2) for the drumline March 3rd.

We need lots of parents to help carpool for this weekend's competition to Hardin Valley on February 11th and to Karns High School on March 24th.

Students need to stay in one of three locations at competitions: in the gym, at concessions, or buying stuff.  If they are found somewhere else, they will be required to sit with me or a chaperone the rest of the day.  Students also need to move in groups of three (3).  If found alone, the previous punishment will be enforced.

We are still looking for FREE places to rehearse: churches, etc....  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Also, we are looking for individuals with LARGE trucks to help us move equipment on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and for competitions.  We do pay for mileage.

Please be patient with us and rehearsal locations.  We are doing our best to find great locations with the help of Vicky Pinto, and we are also doing our best to let the students know as early as we do.  It is difficult not to have locations at our school, but we have to work together to make this successful.

Hi Everyone!

The Spring Semester is now in full swing, and we have many projects in the works:

Door2Door:  The band will earn $2000.00 by working two Saturdays.  The first workday is February 18th, and the second day is April 14th.  We must work both days to earn the $2000.00.  Mr. Carrico will talk about this fundraiser during classes.  Students who participate in the February workday will be eligible to win a $20 iTunes card!  Contact Maureen at mfraible@chartertn.net as soon as possible to let her know if you want to help on either or both of these days.

Food City Cards:  We are at $695.00 in profit for this event.  Thank you.  Just a reminder, Maureen will be at the band room on Thursdays from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. for anyone interested in purchasing these cards.  Please help support the band by shopping at Food City!

Accident Awareness Workshop:  For those of you who do not know about this program, Bristol Motor Speedway sponsors a driver’s education program in the spring.  This program helps students focus on emergency driving situations.  Several band families have participated in this program; ask them for details.  If your student signs up for it, please mention SS Band.  We will receive $10 for every student who does this—whether they are in band or not!  Flyers will be posted at school and in several businesses promoting this event.

Cartridge Recycling:  We will continue to sell back ink cartridges.  If we receive any cartridges that the company will not buy back, Maureen will recycle them through the Office Depot program.  There is a separate red box below THE RED BOX for your cartridges.

McBand Nite:  McDonalds will host a McBand Nite in April.  Details will be forthcoming.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us.  We appreciate your help in raising funds.  Your hard work goes to make this the best band program that we can.

Thank you,

Kathy Futch (kfutch@chartertn.net) & Maureen Raible (mfraible@chartertn.net)

Some of the parents have asked me about the pictures I have taken over the last four years of the band.  I am finally organizing my albums on my Shutterfly account.  Like a lot of you, I have a scrapbook to make and of course I have waited until now to get started.  I am not a good photographer at all.  I aim and shoot and hope I can use some of the pictures I take.  What I do have, I would be glad to share.  All I need is an e-mail address from anyone that would like to be a member of my Shutterfly.

I am adding pictures every day to get started on this scrapbook, in which I have no idea what I am doing.  As I look through my pictures, I am amazed at how our kids have changed over the last four years.  If you would like to view them just e-mail me your e-mail address and I will place you as a member on my Sullivan South account.  You will then receive an e-mail back as an invite.  I hope that there are some you can use.  If not I hope you will enjoy just looking back at our kids.

Thanks to Mary Hogue and Mr. Pinto for all the pictures that they have taken and shared of our kids.  If anyone else has pictures to share, I would love to view them.

Thanks,

Donna Lewis (Kaela’s Mom)
