Congratulations to the following students who were chosen for the 2011 Sullivan County All-County Band: FLUTES: Kim Parker, Natalie Huffstutler, Brooke Johnson, Gracie Templeton; CLARINETS: Katie Masters, Kate Verna; SAXOPHONES: Caty Scarce, Peyton Nanney; TRUMPET: Chris Ward; HORNS: Christine Sass, Peyton Cantrell; TROMBONE: Jake Brickey; BARITONE: Guy Bortz; TUBA: Josh Collingsworth. Kim Parker, Katie Masters, Christine Sass, Jake Brickey, and Guy Bortz all received the honor of first chair.

Congratulations to Sullivan South Rebel Guard member Jacob Ottinger who made a spot in the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps Color Guard for summer 2012. The Rebel Band will be watching you!

Four students from Sullivan South High School were selected at this audition to be a part of the All State-East Senior Band and Orchestra Clinic and concert which will be held February 2-4 at the Park Vista Hotel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  The students were judged on their skills in scales, prepared music, and sight reading.  The South students who were selected for this honor are Chris Ward for Trumpet, Kim Parker for Flute, Katie Masters for Clarinet, and Christine Sass for French Horn.  Chris Ward was selected to be in the top band.  Catherine Raible, Guy Bortz, Jake Brickey, Brooke Johnson, and Peyton Nanney all make alternate positions.

2011 Southern States

Congratulations South Rebel Band! On November 5, 2011 the Sullivan South Band participated in their last competition of the season.  They participated in the US Scholastic Band Association Southern States Championship. They competed with 8 bands in the Class V Open Division from Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, and Kentucky.  The South Band placed 3rd.  The point spread from 1st to 3rd was only 0.8 points.    

Congratulations South Rebel Band! South Rebel Band participated in Music in the Castle at TN High today. The results - 1st in Music, 1st in Percussion, 1st Overall in Class 4A, and 1st in Class 3A and 4A, and Band of the Day! Way to go Rebel Band!

Congratulations Rebel Band! The Rebel Band participated in the Appalachian Marching Band Festival on October 15, 2011 and here are the wonderful results ~ 1st in - Percussion, Marching, General Effect, Color Guard, Drum Major, Overall Class 3A. They also received 1st Overall of all the classes and received the Chancellor's Cup. Way to go Band!

South Band participated in the 2011 Crockett Festival of Bands and received a Superior Rating in Class 3A as well as Best of Class for Color Guard and second place in Percussion. Color Guard had the highest Guard score of AA & AAA Bands

The Sullivan South Winter Guard and Indoor Drumline participated in the Carolina Indoor Performance Association 2011 Championships on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Western Carolina University.  The Winter Guard presented their show entitled “A Haunting Show.”  They placed 1st in their class of 12 units performing for the second consecutive year.  The Drumline presented their show entitled “What If?” and they placed 3rd in their class of 9 units performing. 

Congratulations to the Sullivan South Concert Band who participated in the ETSBOA Concert Festival at Greeneville High School on March 24, 2011. They were given all superior ratings for their performance.  Go Band!

Congratulations to the South Drumline’s for their 1st Place Finish in the PSA Advanced Class and the Winter Guard for their 1st Place Finish in the HSA Intermediate Class  at the CIPA Competition Hosted by Sullivan South on March 12, 2011.

 

Congratulations to the Drumline for their 3rd place Finish in the WGI Spartanburg Regional.  They were in a Class with 17 other Drumlines. WAY TO GO!

The Sullivan South Winter Drumline and Winter Guard participated in the Clover High SchoolWinter Guard and Drumline Competition on February 19, 2011.  The Sullivan South Drumline presented their show “What If” and came in 2nd in their division.  The Sullivan South Winter Guard presented their show “A Haunting Show” and came in 1st in their Division. 

The Sullivan South Winter Drumline and Winter Guard participated in the Gibbs High School Carolina Indoor Performance Association (CIPA) Qualifier for Winter Guard and Drumline on January 22, 2011.  The Sullivan South Drumline presented their show “What If” and came in 2nd out of 13 performing Drumlines.  The Sullivan South Winter Guard presented their show “A Haunting Show” and came in 4th out of 13 performing Winter Guards. 

  • East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association auditions for this year’s Junior Band Clinic were held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Volunteer High School.  Five ninth grade students from Sullivan South High School Band were selected at this audition to be part of the Junior Band Clinic to be held on February 11 and 12 at Greeneville High School.  The clinic will conclude with a concert on February 12.  The South Students who were selected for this honor are: Natalie Huffstutler - Flute,  Brooke Johnson - Flute, Peyton Nanney - Alto Saxophone, Caty Scarce - Alto Saxophone, and Kate Verna - Clarinet
  • Twelve students from Sullivan South High School were selected at this audition to be a part of the All State-East Senior Band and Orchestra Clinic and concert which will be held February 3-5 at the Park Vista Hotel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  The students were judged on their skills in scales, prepared music, and sight reading.  The South students who were selected for this honor are Chase Duncan for Bass Clarinet, Chris Ward for Trumpet, Kim Parker for Flute, Katie Masters for Clarinet, Erica Morie for Bass Clarinet, John Webb for Trumpet, Aaron Stickley for Baritone, Caden Cox for Trumpet, Bryan Eldreth for Bassoon, Josh Smith for Trumpet, Christine Sass for French Horn, and Josh Collingsworth for Tuba.  Chase Duncan and Chris Ward were selected to be in the top band.

Catherine Raible, Kim Parker, Bryan Eldreth Chase Duncan and William Young all received the honor of first chair.
Powell Valley

In the McChesney Band Festival South Band was classified as Class 5A. In Class 5A, they got 1st place Color Guard, 2nd Place Drum Major, 1st place Percussion, and 1st Place Best in Class 5A.  They received a Division 1 Rating which is a Superior Rating.  To cap off the day, the Sullivan South Band won the overall McChesney Band Festival 1st place Trophy – top of all 14 bands in attendance.

South Band participated in the 2010 David Crockett Festival of Bands and received a Superior Rating in Class 4A as well as Best of Class for Drum Major, Color Guard, and Percussion.

South Band participated in the 2010 USSBA State Championship at Carson Newman and received 2nd place in Class 4A. The Percussion Section received a caption award..
